MACAULAY NATION: DAY ONE

Just some impressions:

More T-shirt colors than a crayola box…thanks to Rich Dikeman for getting Macaulay students so well outfitted.? Kudos to the students who managed to tie, trim, artfully fray those shirts into fashion statements.? Many bows to the weather gods who delivered a bright sunny dry lovely day.? (Or does the remarkable Autumn Payne have a direct line to the weather gods??)? Student volunteers!? You are the best.? Hooray for my black-T group #8 and our efficient and compassionate visit to the soup kitchen.? Best story of the day might be the greyhound group as the catalyst, not the cause, of a bus fight.

For the new New Yorkers in the group, you are doing GREAT.? By the end of the semester, you will be indistinguishable from the native New Yorkers.

Poetry slammers, you rock.? I was pretending to sneeze during a few of the presentations so you wouldn’t know how close to tears I felt sometimes.? My mother-in-law used to say that she and I were both “built close to the water,” an old German way of saying that we are emotional types.? But I also laugh with great gusto, and did so many times today.

Apple lovers, tomorrow is your day!
