Orfeo at the Met

Extraordinary performance by Stephanie Blythe. Was it because of her, the length of the opera (90 minutes!), the ever fascinating story of Orpheus descending to the underworld to save his wife Eurdydice, or Peter Gelb’s remaking of the Met that the audience was younger and less formal than ever?

My son didn’t seem to have any trouble with the idea of a soprano playing a man in a role that was written for castrati tenors. Hmmm, was is the plural???

Only two more performances left! Read about Stephanie Blythe in the NYT today.
