Vote for Macaulay

1. Literally: check out the Eportfolio showcase and vote for your favorite Macaulay digital presence.  Hmmm, why is my link button grayed out?  (And when did GRAY become a verb?). OK, try here:

2.  Macaulay students, identify yourself!  I was recently told by LinkedIn’s CEO that I was one of his first 100,000 users.  OK, so it was just an email blast, but during a day when I really needed some self-esteem boosting, I admit that it made me smile.

So I was noticing today that I now have a few hundred pals there from former lives at cable/Fathom/Columbia/NFL/Group W/TeleprompTer/Satellite TV/Online learning/PrimeTime 24.

Lovely now to have a growing number of Macaulay students and alumni among my connections and friends.

But too often, I see students who name their individual campus and not Macaulay.  When you do that, you are leaving out our strongest connection — and (as the journalists say), you are burying the headline on your educational accomplishments.

That is true, by the way, for your resume when it lands in front of an employer or admissions officer for medical, law, anthropology, or any graduate program of your choice. You are a Macaulay alum:  don’t bury that lead!

Now that Macaulay alumni are Rhodes Scholars and NSF winners, studying at Yale and Stanford, MIT and Harvard, working as successful entrepreneurs, teachers, nonprofit leaders, artists, accountants, and engineers, our name and our network are strong.  And getting stronger all the time — oh wow, that Class of 2011!

Macaulay Honors College at Hunter College, for example?  Yup, sounds like the beginning of  a story of high achievement in the best urban public institution in the greatest city on earth.  That’s how it will sound to the employer or admissions officer.  Use it:  you earned it.

PS with an affectionate and admiring tip of the hat to:
