The good: glorious screen, typing better than I expected, new book reading apps from iBooks and Kindle are huge improvements over previous interfaces. Weight not bad. Size excellent. Battery fantastic. Really, all a lot more than good, but I was channeling Clint Eastwood.
The bad: where’s THE HUSBAND app, Harold wants to know, as I have been playing all day and need to get some work done!
the beautiful: seeing my nearly one thousand Evernotes, two dozen operas, five Damages episodes, 3000 photos, and in-progress Scrabble games come flooding in…easy to synch, a pleasure to see, and a thrill to use. The Apple ecosystem at its best.
On Monday, iPad goes to work. I will also have to buy a case and a Sprint Mifi thing-a-ma-jig to replace the USB modem I usually use, since the iPad has no damn USB port. (Really, that would have been VERY nice!) And wifi is too iffy. I mean, there I was, back in Barneys this afternoon trying on my mother-of-the-bride dress again and couldn’t use the iPad to google the designer to see if it was really true: that he dressed Michelle Obama for the inauguration!
I don’t miss a camera in this, doesn’t seem all that necessary, though I guess videoconferencing is a heartbeat away, and iPad should be ready for that. I know “my finger is the stylus” but I wish I could have something with handwriting recognition, truly I do.
Funny coincidence that I gave my terrific Toshiba netbook to my daughter for her month-long travels before graduation…I thought I’d miss it a lot, but golly gee, something tells me I have acquired a major consolation prize!
